The X Senior Asian Kurash Championship took place in Pune, India, between 20th and 25th March.
In the biggest event of the calendar of the Kurash Confederation of Asia-Oceania (KCAO), Kurash players from more than 20 countries of the continent have attended. The Kurash event presented extremely intense and dramatic matches and will be remembered by these characters.
At the beginning of the competitions, the opening ceremony was held.
At the ceremony, the melodies and dances of the Indian and Uzbek artists presented the true festive mood of friendship, peace and harmony.
More than 200 Kurash players in 15 weight categories came onto carpet to compete. At the end of the competitions, winners from 8 countries of the continent took the podium.
The men's and women's teams of Uzbekistan have earned the highest results.
The team members won 10 gold, 5 silver and 1 bronze medals in total. Iran and Turkmenistan teams ended the tournament with 2nd and 3rd best results, respectively. Vietnam, Chinese Taipei and India teams also occupied higher positions.
“In August-September of current year, the first Summer Asian Games in Indonesia will include Uzbek Kurash as an official competition”- said the first vice-president of the International Kurash Association, President of the Indian Kurash Association, Jagdish Tytler. “This championship was a unique preparation for Kurash players. That is why every single competition was very uncompromising. This indicates the fact that the Uzbek Kurash is gaining prestige in the international arena”.
